MarinHealth Donates $50K to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières’ to Support Relief
MarinHealth today announced the medical center is donating $50K to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), an organization dedicated to delivering emergency medical aid to people in crisis, including Ukraine and neighboring countries impacted by the violence.
“We are eager to do our part to help during this time of crisis,” said David Klein, MD, CEO. “On behalf of our medical center’s care team, we are honored to support MSF as they work to provide relief to Ukrainian civilians forced to flee their homes. Our donation will help the people impacted by this crisis to access the medical services they need.”
“As a leading healthcare provider in the Bay Area, we believe all healthcare organizations should work together to respond to the needs of those who are impacted. Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine and the healthcare workers who are working tirelessly to help those impacted by the conflict,” commented Klein.
Prior to the escalation of the war, MSF had already been working throughout the region to help people access health care facilities, services and prescribed medications. Since February, MSF has intensified its efforts with approximately 170 international MSF and 400 Ukrainian staff working across Ukraine in Berehove, Bila Tserkva, Dnipro, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Lviv, Mukachevo, Odesa, Poltava, Uzhhorod, Vinnytsia, and Zhytomyr, with more joining the team every day. They work as medical staff (surgeons, doctors, nurses), psychologists; logistics and administration; and management.
To date, MSF has brought more than 460 metric tons of medical and relief supplies, helped hundreds of men, women, and children to access care, and set up mobile clinics in multiple communities so people can access needed medical care, including psychological first aid and social services.
