Last updated: 04/20/2015

The Marin Post and the Marin Post web site, as a project of Community Venture Partners, Inc. (“Marin Post”), provides this Privacy Policy to inform you of our policies and procedures regarding the collection, use and disclosure of personal information we receive from users of MarinPost and any other web sites, networks or services owned or operated by Marin Post (the "Marin Post Service"). This Privacy Policy applies only to information that you provide to us through the Marin Post Service. Our Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time, pursuant to our Terms of Service, to which this Privacy Policy is incorporated by reference, and we will notify you of any material changes by making the new Privacy Policy available through the Marin Post Service. All terms used in this Privacy Policy that are not defined have the definitions provided in our Terms of Service

  • 1. Information Collection: The Personally Identifiable Information We Collect.

User-Provided Personal Information: In the course of using the Marin Post Service, you may provide us with personally identifiable information and information about organizations that you represent. This refers to information about you included in Creating an Account, or creating a Post, making choices on your Profile and/or any other Content that can be used to contact or identify you and your organizations, and information on your personal interests, preferences, use of and activities through the Marin Post Service that may be connected with you (“Personal Information”). Personal Information that we collect may include, but is not limited to, your name, organization names, phone numbers, credit card or other billing information, email addresses and home and business postal addresses. Personal Information may also include information you supply to us in the course of using the Marin Post Service including your preferences, interests expressed, and other content submissions.

Technical Information: When you use the Marin Post Service, our servers automatically record information that your computer or device sends whenever you visit a website. This information may include, but is not limited to, your device type, Internet Protocol address, UUID, or other device identifier or address information, operating system, browser type, the web page you were visiting immediately before you came to the Marin Post Service, and the search query you submitted to find the Marin Post Service on a search engine. Like many websites, we also use “cookies” to collect information. A cookie is a small text file containing a string of alphanumeric characters that we transfer to your computer’s hard disk for record-keeping purposes. We use “persistent cookies” to personalize your experience with the Marin Post Service, such as by saving your registration ID and login password for future logins, and we use “session ID cookies” to enable certain features of the Marin Post Service, to better understand how you interact with the Marin Post Service and to monitor aggregate usage and web traffic routing on the Marin Post Service, to optimize our Service, and to serve advertisements through our Service. A session cookie disappears after you close your browser. A persistent cookie remains after you close your browser and may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the Service. You can instruct your browser, by changing its options, to stop accepting cookies or to prompt you before accepting a cookie from the websites you visit. If you do not accept cookies from the Marin Post Service, however, you may not be able to use all portions of the Marin Post Service or all functionality of our services.

“Automatically Collected” Information. When you use the Marin Post Service, we may automatically record certain information from your device by using various types of technology, including “clear gifs" or “web beacons.” This “automatically collected” information may include your IP address or other device address or ID, web browser and/or device type, the web pages or sites that you visit just before or just after you use the Marin Post Service, the pages or other content you view or otherwise interact with on the Marin Post Service, and the dates and times that you visit, access, or use the Marin Post Service. We also may use these technologies to collect information regarding your interaction with email messages, such as whether you opened, clicked on, or forwarded a message. This information is gathered from all users.

Third Party Web Beacons and Third Party Buttons. We may also implement third-party content or advertising on the Marin Post Service that may use clear gifs or other forms of web beacons, which allow the third-party content provider to read and write cookies to your browser in connection with your viewing of the third party content on the Marin Post Service. Additionally, we may implement third party buttons (such as Facebook “like” or “share” buttons) that may allow third parties to collect information about you through such third parties’ browser cookies, even when you do not interact with the button. Information collected through web beacons and buttons is collected directly by these third parties, and Marin Post does not participate in that data transmission. Information collected by a third party in this manner is subject to that third party’s own data collection, use, and disclosure policies. Your operating system or browser may include settings, options, or add-on components to control the placement and presence of cookies and access to location information. We do not track our users over time and across third party websites to provide targeted advertising and do not specifically respond to Do Not Track (“DNT”) signals. However, some third party websites do keep track of your browsing activities, including across other websites on the Internet, which enables these websites to tailor what they present to you. If you are visiting such websites, your browser may allow you to set a DNT signal on your browser so that third parties know you do not want to be tracked. Additionally, third parties operating on the Service may collect Personal Information about an individual consumer’s online activities over time and across different Web sites.

Integrated Services. You may be given the option to enable features that integrate features or functions of various different services. These options may allow you to access or register for the Marin Post Service through the use of your user name and passwords for certain services provided by third parties (each, an “Integrated Service”), such as through the use of your Facebook credentials through Facebook Connect, or to authorize an Integrated Service to provide personal information or other information to us. By authorizing us to connect with an Integrated Service, you authorize us to access and store your name, telephone number, email address(es), date of birth, gender, current city, profile picture URL, and other information that the Integrated Service makes available to us, and to use and disclose it in accordance with this Policy. You should check your privacy settings on each Integrated Service to understand and change the information sent to us through each Integrated Service. Please review each Integrated Service’s terms of use and privacy policies carefully before using their services and connecting to our Marin Post Service.

Information from Other Sources. We may obtain information, including personal information, from third parties and sources other than the Marin Post Service, such as our partners, advertisers, Integrated Services, and service providers you transact or interact with in connection with your use of the Marin Post Service. If we combine or associate information from other sources with personal information that we collect through the Marin Post Service, we will treat the combined information as personal information in accordance with this Policy.
