Our Judicial System: Broken But Fixable?

Marin Coalition is pleased to present the Honorable Judge LaDoris Hazzard Cordell (ret.) to begin our series of programs for 2022. Judge Cordell’s recent book Her Honor describes her life on the bench: “what works, what’s broken, and how to change it.” In a career of “firsts,” she has broken barriers at every turn and worked to make the legal system more fair, equitable and effective. She will share with us her rare and thought-provoking perspectives on our legal system based on cases she oversaw and discuss the strengths, flaws, and much-needed changes within our courts.
We’re delighted to have Noah Griffin return to our podium to moderate this event. Newly installed on the Tiburon Town Council, Mr. Griffin is known to most in Marin as an attorney, broadcaster, activist and musician.
Speaker: Judge LaDoris Hazzard Cordell is a legal commentator and police reform advocate, and frequent commentator on news outlets such as NPR, CNN, and MSNBC. A graduate of Stanford Law School, she became the first African American woman jurist in Northern California, a position she held from 1982 to 2001. An artist and pianist, she resides in California with her partner and is the proud mother of two daughters.
Moderator: Noah Griffin is the newest member of the Tiburon Town Council. A fixture of Bay Area politics, arts and culture his entire life, he is a graduate of Fisk University and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School before embarking on his several careers. He served on the staffs of SF Mayor Frank Jordan and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, hosted shows on KGO, KFRC and K-101 and served on the editorial board of the San Francisco Examiner and the Marin Independent Journal.
