The Stress, Science & Politics of Chronic Disease in America

For our last gathering of 2019, TEDxMarin is proud to present a very special SALON featuring two powerhouse speakers on Stress and Chronic Disease in America: Elissa Epel, Ph.D. and Robert H. Lustig, MD, MSL.

Our TOPIC is “Wellness 2.0. The Stress, Science, and Politics of Chronic Disease”. With all-star guests at the forefront of this important field of medicine, we’ll explore how our brains have been hacked thanks to everything from stress to sugar to cell phones to social media, the systems behind these outcomes, and despite them, how we can live longer healthier lives.

What’s making America a chronically sick nation? Is our biology struggling with modern inputs like drugs, processed foods, or technology? Is the cultural chasing of rewards and pleasure proving to be unhealthy? What incumbent systems perpetuate this cycle of illness? Must we disengage from these influences to follow a path to wellness?

There is Good News. In context with the influences of politics and big business that drive much of the conversation on healthcare, we’ll explore emerging science in nutrition and health practices, and the paradigm shifts needed to steer institutions to support true wellness. We’ll also chart ways to drastically improve our individual well-being, including how simple tactics like strengthening stress resilience can lead to exponentially improved health outcomes.

This SALON includes a Pre-talk community reception connecting our 650+ attendees, including a small showcase of interesting companies and services.

Community gathering begins at 6:30 pm. Presentations begin at 8 pm and end by 9:45 pm.

The After Party will take place at Marinitas on Sir Francis Blvd (San Anselmo) just 5 min from College.
