MarinHealth Receives Five-Star Rating from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)

Today MarinHealth announced that it has earned a five-star rating, the highest possible, through the Overall Hospital Star Ratings program by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for 2023.

This award represents a leading resource consumers use to determine where they’ll seek care. When compared to other hospitals – in the North Bay area, California, and across the nation – MarinHealth ranks among the very best. Of the 3,200 Medicare-certified, acute care hospitals evaluated by CMS, MarinHealth is ranked among the top 12% of top-performing hospitals nationwide to achieve five stars. MarinHealth is the only hospital in Marin County and one of only 47 esteemed hospitals in California to have received this recognition.

The Overall Star Rating for hospitals summarizes five areas of quality into a single score for each hospital. Categories include Mortality, Safety of Care, Readmission, Patient Experience, and Timely and Effective Care. These star ratings are based on data collected across all categories between July 2018 and March 2022.

“Our five-star rating affirms MarinHealth’s commitment to delivering the high-quality care that our community deserves,” said David Klein, MD, Chief Executive Officer at MarinHealth. “This recognition is a testament to the talent and dedication of all of our employees and physicians. We have the highest caliber clinical team, doctors, and extraordinary individuals who support this high-performing organization.”

The purpose of the Overall Hospital Rating is to improve the quality of information posted on Hospital Compare, a searchable website designed to help Medicare users make decisions on where to receive care.
