Annual community celebration with free food, musical performances, and community awards. Interviews available.
Several hundred community members from Marin City, the most pollution burdened community in Marin County, will gather to celebrate the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The annual celebration, organized by the Marin City Community Services District and the MLK Planning Committee, will include free food, performances, community awards, keynote speakers, and information for residents of the Marin City community.
The event will start with a table talk from 10-11:30 am at the Marin City Senior Center and continue with the program from 12-2:30 pm at MLK Academy.
Residents of Marin City, an unincorporated majority-African American environmental justice community, have for decades been burdened by disproportionate air, water, and soil pollution. Building on a previous Health Needs Assessment conducted on water pollution and solutions to improve water quality, at the MLK Jr. celebration, MCCRHJ will launch a comprehensive Community Needs Assessment on air pollution impacts and solutions to improve air quality.
