Why You Should Act: In November 2020, voters were tricked into approving Prop. 19 by a slim margin. Prop 19 removed vital taxpayer protections: It substantially raises the property taxes of children inheriting California homes. In many instances this forces the sale of the home (as was intended by the realtor lobby that was the main force behind prop 19). This is upending families' futures together and their financial security. It's important that you help reverse Prop 19 because:

  • Parents should be able to transfer property to their children WITHOUT triggering reassessment and a HUGE TAX INCREASE.
  • Misleading statements TRICKED VOTERS INTO REMOVING that protection from state law when they passed Prop. 19 in November 2020.
  • The Repeal the Death Tax initiative will RESTORE this important taxpayer protection for California families.
  • FAMILIES benefit because the death of a parent won’t trigger an UNAFFORDABLE TAX HIKE. This is also an EQUITY issue, destabilizing minority neighborhoods. Nearly 1/3 of all Black homes sold are bought by corporate investors.
  • RENTERS benefit: This measure stops sudden reassessment of family-owned apartment buildings (rents & evictions rise)
