For the first time in many years, there are two supervisor positions – one representing San Rafael, the other representing Novato -- that are totally up for grabs, as the current incumbents aren’t seeking re-election. The five-member Board of Supervisors makes important decisions that impact everyone in the county. This election impacts YOU, regardless of where you live in the county.

Eric Lucan is a Novato native, a graduate of Novato schools, and a life-long resident of Novato. He started volunteering and giving back to his hometown by working with and mentoring young people as a church youth director and volunteer soccer and volleyball coach. After earning his MBA, Eric returned to Novato and served as a volunteer chaplain with the Novato Police Department and as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner from 2007 to 2011. He was first elected to the Novato City Council in 2011 and has served as Mayor in 2014, 2019 and presently in 2022. For the past 7+ years, Eric has been the Chief Marketing Officer for Mike's Bikes, headquartered in Novato. Eric and his wife Kiley are proud parents of their 3-year-old son, the ever-curious Noah, and their 8-month-old daughter, the always smiling Selah.

Kevin Morrison leads innovative teams that tackle big challenges like reducing reliance on fossil fuels. He also works as an individual contributor, advocating for solutions that center fairness, equity, and inclusion in enterprises large and small. Clients in business include giants like American Express and Cisco, and startups like TechSoup and SocialPandas. Educational and governmental clients include Stanford University, the Veterans Administration, and the Bay Area Air Quality District. Nonprofit clients include Multicultural Center of Marin, SF DanceFest, and Cool the Earth. Voluntarism includes leadership positions at Green Change, Climate Reality Bay Area, and Sister District Marin. Whether Kevin working as a volunteer or paid advocate, his focus is public service that leads to a more just and verdant world. Kevin is a lifelong resident of Novato. He and wife Michelle share their downtown home with much-loved rescue dog Roxie.

Colin Medalie has a professional background that includes 17 years in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff and 15 years as the owner and operator of a skydiving school. His educational studies included a concentration in auditing and accounting. Colin has an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate and is an FAA Certified Instrument flight and ground instructor; is an FAA certified Master Rigger, and has a POST Advanced Certificate. Previously he attended commercial flight schools and accumulated extensive hands-on experience. In the past, Colin was a skydiving Instructor in all methodologies. He has more than 3,000 hours of flight experience and more than 5,000 skydives. He was a Facility Training officer. His academic education emphasized auditing and accounting. In martial arts, Colin is a Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu jitsu and achieved a 3rd place Masters Pan IBJFF. He has a 2011 Brown belt Shotokan Karate (retired).

Jason Sarris is 52 years old and homeless. He lives at a sanctioned camp in Novato called "Camp Compassion". Jason says the camp was built because of his leadership and passion for social justice. Homelessness and housing are two very important issues facing Marin today. Jason is a voting member of the Homeless Policy Steering Committee and a member of the Housing Stakeholders Committee. He is also a board member of Marin Housing For All, which is a non profit that provides direct mutual aid and helps stabilize homeless camps with the purpose of building social equity and empowering the unhoused. Jason wants to represent diversity, oversight, transparency and accountability throughout the county.

Dick Spotswood, Moderator Columnist @Marin Independent Journal

Dick Spotswood is the politics and government columnist for The Marin Independent Journal. His IJ columns appear every Sunday and Wednesday. A San Francisco native, Dick is a former Mill Valley city council member (1980-92) and three-term Mayor. He served for ten years (1982-92) as a Director of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District representing Marin’s eleven cities and towns. After four decades as an attorney, Dick has now retired from the law.
