Marin’s New Wildfire Preparedness Agency: Launched and Moving Forward
12:00 PM PT
Speakers:
Bruce Goines - President of the Board, Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority
Mark Brown - Executive Officer, Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority
In November 2019, Coalition attendees learned about the embryonic Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA) and the proposed tax measure to support the new agency. That tax measure, Measure C, passed with more than 70% approval. The MWPA is now well launched and hard at work. Board President Bruce Goines and Executive Officer Mark Brown will tell us about getting a new agency with 17 member agencies up and running (during a pandemic), work already accomplished, projects underway, and plans for the future.
As always, there will be a question-and-answer period. In the midst of another historic wildfire season, coupled with a historic drought, this should be a lively and timely presentation and discussion.
This and all our virtual events are being brought to the community free of charge as part of our effort to continue our series of dialogues while in-person meetings cannot be held. We hope you’ll register to join us and will tune in on the 8th at noon to hear this timely and important discussion.
Bruce Goines is President of the Board of the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority, now serving his second year as President. In 2014, Bruce retired from the US Forest Service after serving for 40 years as a wildland firefighter and professional forester. His work included on-the-ground forest management and wildland firefighting. In his last 20 years, he managed statewide programs supporting preparation and implementation of community wildfire prevention plans. Bruce graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science in Forest Resource Management, and remains a CA Registered Professional Forester.
Mark Brown is the Executive Officer of the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority. Mark was hired by the Marin County Fire Department (MCFD) as a Firefighter/Paramedic in 1991. With the MCFD Mark served on a CAL FIRE Incident Management Team and was a founding member of the North Bay Team. His deployments included floods, earthquakes, mud slides, civil unrest, and wildland fires. After serving nearly 30 years with MCFD, including as Deputy Fire Chief, Mark became the Executive Officer for the MWPA in October 2020. Mark has a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Studies – Organizational Leadership.
