Speakers:

Paul M. Cohen – Chair of the Marin Democratic Party

Kevin Krick – Former Bay Area Vice-Chair, CA Republican Party

The new political climate that has developed in Washington and beyond has created reverberations in both parties and in every corner of the nation. Marin is not immune from these forces and observers on all sides have seen significant turmoil within and between the major American political parties created in the wake of the 2016 election and its fallout. The agenda and policies of the new Administration are initiated on the national level but have a potential local impact on issues as diverse as environment, health care, tax policy, race relations and war and peace. Our speakers will attempt to describe how their respective parties’ are confronting these challenges here in Marin.

Paul M. Cohen is Chair of the Marin Democratic Party, and has served since 2004 on the Democratic Central Committee of Marin. Paul served as a council member and is former vice-mayor of the City of San Rafael. His other past positions include nine years on the San Rafael Board of Education serving seven years as its President; he was also Director of Gov’t Relations for the Carpenter’s Union for 26 years. For the last five years, Paul has been an independent political consultant at PM Cohen Public Affairs.

Kevin Krick recently was termed out as Bay Area Regional Vice-Chair for the California Republican Party and previously served as Chair of the Marin Republican Central Committee. He is a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. After graduation Kevin sailed in the merchant marine before coming ashore, obtaining his master’s degree in Marine Policy, and being appointed to the George W. Bush administration. He continues to serve as a Captain in the U.S. Navy. Kevin has worked at American President Lines; his current position is Director of Safety, Security and Emergency Response at Matson, a leading international shipping and terminal company.
