The San Rafael City Council will be approving MOUs on pensions
1400 FIFTH AVENUE SAN RAFAEL, CALIFORNIA
SAN RAFAEL, California
7:00 PM PT
The San Rafael City Council will be approving MOUs (Memorandums of Understanding) for three bargaining units next Monday, August 1, 2016. CSPP will be there once more to try to encourage the city to implement some of the suggestions we made in order to lessen the financial burden on taxpayers, but we don't hold out much hope unless we can get more San Rafael voters involved.
I asked Dick Tait to provide some points for you San Rafael residents to send to the Council Members before the meeting takes place. You could reword them or send them as they are, starting immediately. You might have good questions of your own, so please use those if you do.
1. According to the proposed MOU posted for the Police Association, the revenue sharing in the existing agreement will be included in the new Agreement. This revenue sharing provision appears to be a legacy from the 2008-09 recession when raises were deferred. It's eight years later now and time to eliminate revenue sharing and modernize the new Agreement.
2. According to the proposed MOU posted for the Police Association, the policemen will receive a one time payment of $2,200 for an expedited bargaining. How can you characterize the six month period it took to reach an agreement as expedited bargaining?
3. Also, there will be a one time payment of $2,200 for a Health Cost Offset. First, if there's going to be a cost offset, it should be in the form of a reimbursement instead of a grant. This offset is in addition to the 3% increase in insurance. Both of these one time increases should be deleted from the agreement. The same argument applies to the Public Employees and Western Council of Engineers Unions even thought the one time payments are less.
I hope you will send notes to the council members starting immediately, and please try to attend the August 2 meeting. Here is a link to send a Contact Email to the full City Council
