Chopped Again — Marin County Law Library Hours
Unfortunately, because of inadequate funding and rising expenses, the two acted Monday night [1/25/16] to compel the library’s board of trustees, to reduce the hours of service for the present with no access on weekends. California law libraries are being funded by a percentage of dwindling court filing fees.
A measure is now being sought in the legislature for a one time infusion of $15.5M for law libraries statewide. On a local basis, it would be of momentary help if it comes to fruition. The permanent fix will be dedicated revenue from the state’s general fund.
Of recent, California law libraries have become evermore used by the public at large, now said to compromise something like 70-80% of patrons. Here in Marin, they are about half.
The Marin County Law Library Board of Trustees are in the process of refocusing on fundraising to bridge the gap to when proper funding engages
The new, fewer, reduced hours will become effective February 1, 2016:
Mon 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM
Tue 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM
Wed 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM
Thur 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM
Fri 8:30 AM – 12:30 NOON
Sat Closed
