Sonoma County Pension Report is a Must Read, Press Democrat July 10, 2016

An Editorial published today in the Sonoma Press Democrat describes exactly what we requested for Marin County - a citizens oversight committee - but were largely ignored. Only a few of the challengers in the supervisor races thought the idea had merit. Even the final candidates for District 4 have said that they don't feel such a committee is worthwhile. One stated that the supervisors should be responsible for this oversight responsibility.

We agree, but it has not proven to work out that way. CSPP feels such a committee is essential.

CSPP has made efforts to impart this type of information to the Board of Supervisors, but lacking the status of an actual oversight group recognized by them, we have been met with resistance at every step. Marin needs a separate board of citizens just for this type of task, and we all need to push to see that this happens.

On another note: The Board of Supervisors has adopted one of the COIN (Civic Openness in Negotiations) tools that we promoted so strongly a few years ago.

On tomorrow's consent calendar there are several labor contracts about which we have questions and comments. We also intend to request that they put into writing their promise to assure that a two-meeting public lead time is permanently adopted. If you have time, we'd love to see some of you there.

Please ask your supervisor to agree to a permanent citizens oversight committee. Details can be worked out once they agree on the concept. Their emails:
