Think you would be good on the Town Council? Many residents of Fairfax care deeply about this Town, but only some have the time and patience to run for a position. The MarinResidents.org wants to make it easy to find and support the ones that will prioritize needs of the Town to the benefit all of its residents!
We are hosting a potential-candidate info session this Thursday November 30, 6-9pm at The Coffee Roastery!
If you (or that neighbor friend of yours) have even remotely thought about running for Council, come and find out about what is needed for you to be a successful candidate and what the job entails. We'll have a few former members of the Town Council to answer your questions, plus a few active folks looking to support the best candidates. Now is time to get informed and speak with the people who know a thing or two about how the Town government operates.
We also encourage people who are interested in supporting quality candidates - those who have generously contributed to the cause of the MarinResidents.org. Come find candidates you can support!
We'll provide the refreshments, you provide the curiosity, insight, and desire to move the Town forward. We think that's a win-win! Join us for this enlightening evening and get your questions answered!
We request that you RSVP to info@marinresidents.org and let us you you'll attend.
Planning Commission Meeting and Housing Issues
Friend-of-the-Site and activist Teliha, wrote an insightful article regarding the California's push to build more housing in Fairfax published in the MarinScope. https://marinlocalnews.com/marin-forum-californias-hidden-agenda/ It is well worth the short read to understand how the State government is pushing to increase housing supply (not just affordable housing) and how this may change the character of Fairfax forever.
If you are concerned, there is a Planning Commission Meeting this Wed at 7pm to discuss the adoption of the Housing Plan -- Click Here for Agenda Packet
To summarize the discussion, they stated purposes of the
Housing Element Update. The following are some of the specific purposes of the
Housing Element update: 1. Increase and diversify the range of housing options available in Fairfax;
2. Address housing affordability by addressing regulatory, process, and market
factors that limit housing production and preservation in Fairfax;
3. Promote suitable and affordable housing for special needs populations,
including housing for lower income households, large families, single parent
households, the disabled, older adults, and people experiencing homelessness;
4. Foster equal housing opportunity for all residents of Fairfax, regardless of
race, religion, sex, sexual orientation or identification, marital status,
ancestry, national origin, color, or ability;
5. Monitor the effectiveness of housing programs to ensure that they respond to
housing needs; and
6. Ensure compliance with State housing law(s)
Where these may be good goals, the regulations that the Town Council has put in place to restrict the rights of homeowners and housing providers, actually work against these goals. Please attend in person or Zoom and put forth your ideas.
San Anselmo: The Town Council will be meeting Dec 12 discussing an under-construction rent control plan. Although they seem to play lip-service to listening to their residents, their actions from the last Council meeting seem to indicate a full-steam ahead down the dark path of extra rent control.
There have been a few choice yard signs placed in visible locations that indicate many people are not on board with their vision. We looking forward to helping the community have a more informed discussion regarding this onerous action of brining Fairfax-Style rent control to San Anselmo. |
