The modern history of Marin County is a tale of unexpected drama and courage. While planners and developers penciled out a scheme to grow the region’s population and ramp up infrastructure and density as far as Pt. Reyes, others had a different vision in mind. In December, we welcome the award-winning creators of the astonishing film Rebels with a Cause, which tells the story of a dedicated band of activists whose vision and tenacity completely changed the County’s trajectory decades ago, thereby preserving what we all enjoy today.

Narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Frances McDormand, Rebels with a Cause tells the story of a regional effort that grew into an astonishing system of 14 National Seashores—the result of garden clubs, ranchers, farmers, conservationists, politicians from both parties, and volunteers working together through compromise and negotiation, with the American public coming up as the winner. Our speakers will give us a unique glimpse into the making of this inspiring film and the effect of its positive environmental story.
