Creative Work Fund Issues RFP for Artist Collaborations

Creative Work Fund
One Lombard Street Suite 305
San Francisco, California
September 28, 2017 to December 1, 2017

The Creative Work Fund, a program of the Walter and Elise Haas Fund, celebrates the role of artists as problem-solvers and the making of art as a profound contribution to intellectual inquiry and to the strengthening of communities.

To that end, the fund is inviting Letters of Inquiry from literary and traditional artists and nonprofit organizations looking to collaborate in the creation of a work of art.

The fund seeks projects in which the creation of art is central; the artist functions primarily as an artist, not as a teacher, an art therapist, or in another capacity; and an active, authentic working partnership between the artist(s) and the organization is central to the work's development. The fund also encourages projects that engage the organization's constituents in the creation of the work; draw upon artists' creativity and problem-solving abilities; draw attention to an important issue or engage audiences in new ways; and challenge artistic imagination and organizational thinking.

In 2018, the fund will award grants ranging between $10,000 and $40,000 for projects that can be completed in two or three years; those of longer duration will be considered. Projects in the literary or traditional arts project may culminate in any form but must feature a lead artist with a demonstrated track record in his/her discipline. In addition, projects should designate at least two-thirds of the grant funds to the principal artists and their direct expenses for creating the work.

To be eligible, projects must feature one or more artists collaborating with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The principal collaborating artist(s) must have lived in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, or Sonoma county for at least two years, and collaborating organizations also must be based in one of those counties.

Letters of Inquiry must be received no later than December 1, 2017. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal by April 6, 2018.

See the Creative Work Fund site for a complete program description, application instructions, and information about current grantees and projects that have been funded in the past.
