City of Mill Valley

Petition - Mill Valley City Council needs to honor their commitment by maintaining 4 lanes on Miller Ave.

July 12, 2017 to July 17, 2017

Concerned Mill Valley residents have posted this Petition to urge the Mill Valley City Council to honor their commitment to the approved Miller Avenue Streetscape Plan, by maintaining two lanes of traffic in each direction in the "Parkway" area of Miller Avenue.

I encourage you to lend your support.

Ask the Mill Valley City Council to honor their commitment to the approved Streetscape Plan by maintaining adequate traffic flow on Miller Avenue.

Dear Mill Valley Neighbor:

Please sign your name to this petition, below, and the following letter will be sent to the Mill Valley City Council in advance of their upcoming hearing on July 17th.

Dear Mill Valley City Council:

The Mill Valley City Council is debating whether to change the approved Miller Avenue Streetscape Plan to have the “Parkway” section of Miller Avenue, between Hilarita and Millwood, permanently restriped to just one single lane in each direction. This change would contradict the results of 10 years of community planning efforts by hundreds of residents and careful studies by professional planners, and it would violate the promise to citizens to re-stripe it to two lanes once construction of the Miller Avenue Streetscape Project is completed.

We are told that this new plan is in response to requests from a few residents along Miller Avenue. However, such a change will be detrimental to the traffic flow for the entire city. The original Miller Avenue Streetscape Plan specifically called for two lanes of traffic in each direction in order to reduce traffic on Blithedale and cut-through traffic in the “Triangle” neighborhoods.

We believe that during the construction, the traffic from Miller Avenue has migrated to Blithedale and to the “cut-through” streets in the neighborhoods between the two arteries. However, once Miller Avenue is complete, traffic should return to Miller, thus relieving pressure on Blithedale and benefitting the neighborhoods as planned.

We ask that the City to keep its commitment to the original plan, as agreed upon, which will improve traffic flow, not constrict it.

Respectfully submitted for your consideration,

This petition will be delivered to:
