Marin Against Density
Public Scoping* Meeting for the Sir Francis Drake Boulevard Rehabilitation Project
699 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard
Kentfield, California
7:00 PM PT - 9:00 PM PT
Please attend meeting and bring your neighbors!
The community needs to voice its concerns now. Once the County issues its Draft EIR, it may be too late to get the County to change the parameters of the project in any meaningful fashion.
We're concerned that certain elements of the project design – narrower vehicular lanes, squared off turning lanes, an additional crosswalk at Wolfe Grade will permanently slow vehicular flow on Sir Francis Drake. The millions to be spent on reconfiguring two major intersections might\ improve traffic flow only slightly. And that this construction process will gridlock central Marin for much of 2018 and 2019.
“Scoping” is the long-awaited next step in the Sir Francis Drake Boulevard Rehabilitation Project process. It's done in preparation for an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) which requires a detailed project description. The scoping process is your opportunity to comment on issues you would like to see analyzed in the EIR.
The County needs to hear from you about what should – and shouldn’t – be included in the project.
Deadlines for commenting: You can comment at this January 10 meeting and/or by mail/email before January 17.
- The County will accept written comments about the scope of the EIR until the deadline of 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
- Letters must be postmarked on or before January 17, 2017. Send letters to: Rachel Reid, Environmental Planning Manager, 3501 Civic Center Drive, Suite 308, San Rafael, CA 94903. - Emails should be sent to: sfdrakeimprovements@marincounty.org
Background on the Project: The Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Rehabilitation Project began as a $6 million re-paving project for which the County allocated $13.2 million in Measure A tax funds. The County now proposes a much bigger project expected to cost as much as $19 million.
Construction is planned to occur over a two year period in 2018 and 2019. (The bigger the project, the longer it will take.)
