Plan Bay Area 2040 Comment Session Slated for July 8

Bay Area Metro Center Board Room
375 Beale Street
San Francisco, California 94105
July 8, 2016
10:30 AM PT

The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) invite public comments at a joint meeting on Friday, July 8 on alternative planning scenarios for future Bay Area housing and job growth, as well as associated transportation needs. The comment opportunity will follow a staff presentation summarizing comments heard from public open houses held in each of the nine Bay Area counties, as well as online comments received to date on an update to the region’s long-range housing and transportation road map known as Plan Bay Area 2040. Representatives with community-based organizations will also share key findings from their outreach in low-income communities and communities of color. Meeting details are as follows:

What: Public Comment Session, Joint Meeting of MTC’s Planning and ABAG’s Administrative Committees

When: Friday, July 8, 10:30 a.m., or following the MTC Planning Committee meeting

Where: Bay Area Metro Center Board Room, 375 Beale Street, San Francisco; note that the meeting will be streamed live from MTC’s web site: http://mtc.ca.gov/whats-happening/meetings/live-webcasts

Background: ABAG and MTC are updating the Bay Area’s long-range transportation and housing plan, known as Plan Bay Area 2040. The agencies are slated to adopt a preferred land use and transportation scenario in the fall of 2016. Currently three scenarios are under consideration. MTC and ABAG just wrapped up a series of open houses, but interested members of the public can still view materials from these meetings and comment online at Plan Bay Area Open Forum. Likewise, an interactive, 10-question survey, Build A Better Bay Area, enables Bay Area residents to set their priorities for housing and transportation and then see how those align with the three proposed planning scenarios. The survey can be taken online via mobile device or desktop computer. Both of these online comment opportunities will be available through Labor Day, so there is still time for residents to share their views.
