Marin Post's blog supporting the Ukrainian people draws Russian DoS attack on our website
On March 3rd, The Marin Post put up a blog in support for the people of Ukraine. It simply listed the international aid organizations that readers could contribute to if they wanted to provide assistance. The post, below, has been prominently published in our main header position ever since.
Today, the Marin Post experienced a massive 'denial of service' (DoS) attack on our website servers... thousands of hits per minute 'clicking' on every link and feature of our site, including attempts to breach our email functions, that almost took down our site and sent us scrambling to install more safeguards and to block the malicious IP address of the assailant.
We were taken off guard but managed to stop the attack. We then traced down the invading server to a location in Russia.
Considering that our publication is less than a hair on the back of a minnow in the world of media, we take this assault on our site as a badge of honor and endorsement for the work we're doing. :)
