CO$T Urges Levine to Oppose More Taxes and Urbanization: Vote NO on SB-2

COST Urges Assembly Member Levine: Vote NO on SB-2

CO$T URGES MARC LEVINE TO VOTE NO ON SB-2

The Coalition of Sensible Taxpayers opposes SB-2 and urges our Assembly Member Marc Levine to vote NO on the bill.

CO$T opposes SB-2 because it is yet another in the seemingly endless series of Sacramento-approved taxes and fees. Each individual tax or fee may seem insignificant. Collectively they make it difficult for homeowners and renters to stay in their homes. CO$T endorses the position and line of reasoning provided by Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association in its August 30, 2017 letter of opposition (see document below, following this post).

SB-2 is one of the key funding sources for SB-35, the so-called Affordable Housing bill. SB-35 seriously damages local control while providing little in the way of truly affordable new housing. SB-35, SB-2, and SB-3 [$4 billion in taxpayer-funded bonds] are being legislatively packaged together.

CO$T commends Assembly Member Levine for his announced opposition to SB-35. This is consistent with his demonstrated efforts to maintain Marin’s suburban density. However, SB-35 has enough support in the Assembly to easily clear the 50% hurdle to passage.

If Assembly Member Levine is serious about defeating SB-35, he must vote NO on SB-2. This would kill SB-2, as its passage requires every Democratic Assembly Member to vote yes.

A vote AGAINST SB-2 and FOR SB-35 would demonstrate Levine’s commitment to representing his constituents. It would secure the approval of two key voter groups: those urging affordable taxes/fees, and those concerned with mandated urbanization of Marin.

CO$T advocates on behalf of Marin taxpayers, who deserve a seat at the table. We have over 500 engaged supporters; organize participation in public hearings; host educational events and public fora; and have our opinion pieces regularly published in the Marin IJ and MarinPost.
