MMWD Board Members to Vote on Fluoride Chemicals and Money to Pay for Them in June Board
In the June 6 MMWD Board meeting, (unless they change it to June 20, which is possible), the Board Members will vote on the fluoride chemicals used in our water, and the money to pay for them. This is an opportunity for the MMWD Board Members to end water fluoridation in Marin. If the Board votes NO on the current chemicals used, and NO for the money to purchase these chemicals, water fluoridation would end in Marin.
The two chronic excuses given by the MMWD for why they must fluoridate our water is a Tale of Two Myths:
MMWD Myth One – The MMWD is forced to fluoridate Marin water because of the 1995 CA State mandate.
The Truth – The 1995 CA state mandate legally allows communities NOT to fluoridate their water and pay a voluntary penalty instead. The penalty is less than what it costs MMWD to fluoridate our water. 24 other CA communities have already rejected water fluoridation (and chosen not to pay the penalty).
MMWD Myth Two – MMWD is forced to fluoridate our water because of the Marin County water fluoridation ordinance that resulted from the 1972 and 1978 votes.
The Truth – MMWD is using fluoride chemicals that are not approved for the purpose they are put into our water as is legally required by the Marin ordinance. MMWD is actually in violation of the Marin County water fluoridation ordinance. MMWD adds hydrofluorosilcic acid (HFA) to our water to treat us for the prevention of cavities. NSF 60 is for the approval of “Water Treatment Chemicals.” HFA is not added to treat the water, it is added to treat people.
Please call, email or attend the June 6th Board meeting, (unless they change it to June 20th), and kindly request the MMWD Board Members to vote NO on the fluoride chemicals used, and NO on paying for these chemicals, and finally put an end to the insidious, unethical practice of water fluoridation in Marin County.
