Please Send In Comments On The Plan Bay Area Update
Plan Bay Area is the Bay Area's Sustainable Communities Strategy (SCS) mandated by Senate Bill 375. This state required Bay Area regional plan - plans for transportation, housing and land use through the Year 2040. It concentrates high-density, mixed-use commercial and housing near transit hubs. Each jurisdiction in the Bay Area, including each Marin County jurisdiction, is mandated (with incentives and penalties) to follow Plan Bay Area. Originally adopted in 2013, the plan is now in the process of being updated.
Amazingly, the 2017 Plan Bay Area Update is planning for greater job growth, population, and housing between 2010 and 2040 than the 2013 Plan Bay Area did. For example, the 2013 Plan Bay Area projected a 29% Bay Area population growth of 2.1 million people between 2010 and 2040 whereas the 2017 Plan Bay Area Update projects a 33% Bay Area population growth of 2.37 million people (from 7.15 million to 9.52 million residents) during the same time period.
