Since the scathing MMWD grand jury report, it’s obvious that change is needed in leadership. Khush is a water scientist with a proven track record of creating sustainable water programs in developing countries with situations more dire than ours.
He’s completely up to date on all water options and technologies and their related costs and benefits. A 14 year resident of Marin, he serves the community on the Board of Trustees of the Marin Sonoma Mosquito Vector Control District.
A recent IJ Headline “Marin water suppliers hope for luck in rain cycle” didn’t surprise me. On their website today they are presenting the June 2021 Urban Water Management Plan for MMWD. It still projects a steady 1.7% population increase though it’s been known since 2020 that the state demands a 10% increase. Additionally, the plan calls a six year drought unlikely, and refuses to even project the possibility of a nine year drought.
In reality, we’re already experiencing a situation beyond the worst case scenario they‘re willing to plan for, and last year we came within six months of going dry, saved only by the huge storms of December.
When Ranjiv announced his candidacy in June, the report was still in draft form. I had the opportunity to speak with him about my concerns then, and I was impressed by his knowledge, vision, expertise, and analytic skills.
He understood the situation Marin faced from past waffling inaction, and was concerned about reservoir protection from fire contamination. The standard of reliance he strives for is a stable four year water supply.
His performance at the recent COST forum increased my strong support. A vote for Ranjiv is a step towards a better future for Marin.
