Many people are confused about why so many local environmental groups support Measure A because they think Measure A is extending funding to Pt. Reyes Ranchers. However, that’s not the case. Pt. Reyes is National Parks' land. The ranches there are excluded from receiving any Measure A funding.
Another critical benefit the public receives by voting for Measure A is that it continues to fund our fire fuels management efforts in Open Space. Any expert will tell you that we are overdue for wildland fire(s) here. The more preparation we do through this continuing investment in our safety, the greater the payout will be in the long run.
Our efforts in addressing wildfire risks here in Marin are among the most proactive and forward-thinking in the State thanks to all the support the community is giving. We are incredibly fortunate to have some of the greatest leadership anywhere helping to get this work accomplished.
It is up to us to give our land managers this additional funding for the critical tools they need to get the job done, particularly in light of rapidly evolving climate change. This is a worthwhile investment for us all.
