It's rare to see a Marin city manager speak out so bluntly about the impact that public sector pensions have on the city he serves. Kudos to City Manager Chris Zapata.
Unfortunately, it appears the City Council of Sausalito will deal with the problem by proposing a continuation of the half-cent sales tax (Measure O) rather than addressing the need for pension reform, thus further burdening its already overtaxed residents. This has been the fall back position of other Marin cities.
It appears that our local candidates running for state offices in the upcoming election are, again, being heavily backed by unions. As long as this continues, reform will remain off the table.
