The following letter has been sent to Novato city council member Eric Lucan.
The Novato downtown station will be useless and the money wasted unless it has good service at peak commute times.
All signals are that this will not be the case.
Can city council answer one simple question - What commitment will SMART make for the train to stop at downtown Novato on one of the three key evening commute times? -- e.g., the trains that leave San Rafael at 4:59pm, 5:29pm or 6:59pm
If this commitment cannot be secured then the station is 100% a waste of public money.
Even if only one of those trains stops at Novato the station will have a 2 hour service interval. That's preposterous - miss your train home to Novato by 2 minutes and you will be stranded for 2 hours!
Either this commitment should be secured from SMART or Novato should pull out of building a downtown station.
