I am not at all shocked after reading Jim Phelps' informative pieces about Marin Clean Energy's history of consumer deception and false advertising in the Marin Post blog. They confirm the reasons why I opted-out from MCE at its inception eight years ago.
MCE continues to do undercover business with Shell, coal, and nuclear, has averaged 43% higher greenhouse gas emissions per megawatt-hour than PG&E, and holds $37m in cash that has not been used to reduce customers' rates - as once promised. This sounds like consumer fraud to me.
To anyone who watches MCE's televised Board meetings, it's obvious that the Board's 28 members lack any understanding of the energy business. Mr. Phelps points this out when he said,
"All agenda items and vision of MCE fall to CEO, Dawn Weisz, a former County planner who once earned $54,000 annually with the County, but is now closing in on $300,000 at the helm of MCE. Of the thousand of agenda items the Board has considered since MCE's May 2010 business launch, not a single "no" vote has been cast by an single member on any single item."
I see MCE as nothing more than a brokerage house using up our cash to pay for their newly created bureaucracy of staff, bonuses, consultants, and lawyers. MCE does not deliver energy, has no power resources to maintain, does no repairs, and does no billing. PG&E does it all for less.
