The Marin IJ reports that the Transportation Authority of Marin will now have to assume $584,000 in unfunded pension liability.
The most galling aspect of this 'fiasco' is that every attempt was made by TAM - as it is by most of these government agencies - to fly completely under the radar.
This huge cost to Marin taxpayers was a mere mention on an agenda. All the while, TAM has been beating the drum and sending out Dianne Steinhauser to try to convince city councils and supervisors that an increase in the sales tax cap is necessary.
Taxpayers need to hold these agencies accountable.
We also need to review the actual need for these agencies to exist at all. In many instances - perhaps most - they don't.
