Letter submitted to the Board of MMWD, 5/10/17 -
Dear MMWD Board of Directors:
As a core member of the
Coalition of Sensible Taxpayers (CO$T), I am writing on behalf of
hundreds of Marin ratepayers who can't keep up with escalating costs.
At the May 16th Public Hearing, I urge you to
vote to delay the proposed rate hikes for a year or more and stop the momentum you've created that makes Marin unaffordable.
The current rate hike proposal, while wrapped in all the
compelling marketing language of "the crown jewel of Marin" and how
costly it is to provide high-quality water, simply fails to - shall we
say "hold water."
Rather than trying to devise ways to get your neighbors, we ratepayers, to sign-off on your annual rate hikes, high compensation packages, and schemes like PayGo to get more money up front rather than planning for long-term expenses, we encourage you to take a Time Out.
Delay the vote on rate hikes. Take a year to tighten your own belt and improve fiscal oversight. Come back to us with a proposal we can live with, without feeling ripped off by the people we elect to represent us.
Thanks for a vote to postpone rate hikes,
Susan Kirsch, CO$T Core Member
Coalition of Sensible Taxpayers
