Potentially Dangerous 5G Small Cell Antennae Coming To A Telephone Pole Near You

Local residents have reported that crews have been stringing cable from telephone pole to telephone pole in preparation for ATT and Verizon to install “Close Proximity Microwave Radiation Antennae” (CPMRA) for 4G and 5G technology in the City of Mill Valley and in Unincorporated Mill Valley. According to crew members, the antennae should be mounted within two months. This may be occurring in other parts of the County too or will be soon.

**Please note that “Close Proximity Microwave Radiation Antennae” are also referred to as “small cell towers” “5G small cell antennae”, and “distributed antenna systems” (DAS).

Many are very concerned about the potential serious adverse health effects (including cancer, infertility, headaches, insomnia, etc.) that may be caused by the round-the-clock millimeter microwave radiation of these small cell antennae. Such millimeter microwave radiation is far more potent than anything previously experienced from the electromagnetic spectrum.

Below is a letter from Sustainable TamAlmonte to the Mill Valley City Council asking them to put this issue on their agenda and prevent the antennae from being installed. Since they are preparing for the placement of the antennae on telephone poles in Unincorporated Mill Valley too, we sent a similar letter to the Marin County Board of Supervisors. Please read the letter for more details. It contains links to a number of relevant scientific reports and a KPIX news broadcast.

If this issue resonates with you, then please send your own letters to the Mill Valley City Council and to the Marin County Board of Supervisors. If you don’t have time to compose a letter, then you could send in a quick email, endorsing Sustainable TamAlmonte’s letter.

Re: PREVENT the imminent placement of “Close Proximity Microwave Radiation Antennae” (CPMRA) for 4G and 5G technology in Mill Valley

Dear Mayor Stephanie Moulton-Peters and Mill Valley City Council Members,

We are very concerned about the imminent placement of “Close Proximity Microwave Radiation Antennae” (CPMRA) for 4G and 5G technology in Mill Valley. Please put this issue on your agenda and prevent the installation of these antennae, which would likely cause serious health problems.

**Note: “Close Proximity Microwave Radiation Antennae” are also referred to as “5G small cell antennae”, “distributed antenna systems” (DAS), and “small cell towers”.

According to local residents, for a number of weeks, crews have been stringing cable from telephone pole to telephone pole in the City of Mill Valley (and in Unincorporated Mill Valley) in preparation for AT&T and Verizon to install “Close Proximity Microwave Radiation Antennae” for 4G and 5G Technology. Crew members stated that the antennae should be installed within two months. We understand that, so far, the work has been taking place without any permits. Although we have no eye-witness reports, this may be occurring in other parts of the County too or will be soon.

CANCER AND OTHER HEALTH EFFECTS

Excerpt from the article by Merinda Teller, MPH, PHD entitled; “Microwave Radiation Coming To A Lampost Near You”[1] (Please see the link to the article in the below footnote):

“The rapid proliferation of all these sources of electromagnetic radiation—cell towers, cell phones, cordless phones, Wi-Fi, smart meters and so on—is exacting a high price on our health. There are now thousands of scientific studies documenting myriad adverse bioeffects of microwave radiation, in particular. These biological effects include cancer, DNA damage, cardiovascular problems, increased stress hormones, sleeping disorders, depression, headaches, irritability and impaired fertility.[2]

Studies assessing cancer and wireless radiation are particularly disturbing. The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer classified the microwave radiation from all wireless devices as a possible human carcinogen in 2011. In 2016, the U.S. National Toxicology Program released results of the world’s largest, gold-standard study on wireless health risks (conducted on rats, which are the preferred animal model for studies of carcinogenicity in humans), finding cancer in 5.5 percent of the exposed group and no cancer in the control group.[3]

Other recent studies highlight strong evidence of a relationship between brain cancers and long-term cell phone use; increased incidence of at least ten other cancers concurrent with the promulgation of wireless technologies, including invasive breast cancers in young women carrying cell phones against their breast; and tumor promotion in response to very low levels of exposure to wireless radiation.[4]

5G technology will likely turn this serious health risk into a public health crisis. Ubiquitous deployment of small cell antennas will unleash unnatural and round-the-clock millimeter microwave radiation that is far more potent than anything previously experienced from the electromagnetic spectrum. In fact, the U.S. military uses millimeter waves—which travel only a short distance—as a non-lethal weapon for crowd control because the waves affect the surface of the body and cause a burning sensation of the skin at higher levels of power. The lower-powered but chronic exposure that most of us will experience outside of our homes, schools and businesses is expected to cause very serious health effects, including higher rates of skin cancer, cataracts, cardiac irregularities and fetal abnormalities.[5] Moreover, millimeter wave radiation has effects on microbes and may prompt increased antibiotic resistance.[6]

Cell towers can no longer be placed in proximity to fire stations. A study showed that all the firemen tested had abnormal brain function after exposure to the cell tower radiation, even at low levels. Firefighters’ symptoms included problems with memory, intermittent confusion, and weakness. Please view the KPIX news broadcast that reports this by following the below link.

FIBER OPTIC CABLE IS A BETTER OPTION

Instead of allowing the installation of potentially dangerous “Close Proximity Microwave Radiation Antennae” for 4G and 5G technology, we suggest you support fiber optic cable. Fiber optic cable is faster, more secure, more reliable, more energy efficient, healthier and safer than wireless networks, according to a public policy report entitled; “Re-Inventing Wires; The Future of Landlines and Networks”[7] [8]

Moreover, with fiber optic cable:

THE CHALLENGE OF PROHIBITING THE INSTALLATION OF CLOSE PROXIMITY MICROWAVE RADIATION ANTENNAE

We understand that federal law prohibits jurisdictions from considering the health impacts of radio frequency emissions in their deliberations.

Federal Telecommunications Act (1996):

“(iv) No State or local government or instrumentality thereof may regulate the placement, construction, and modification of personal wireless service facilities on the basis of the environmental effects of radio frequency emissions to the extent that such facilities comply with the Commission’s regulations concerning such emissions.”

However, we also understand that there may be technical roadblocks that could be pursued to stop the installation of the 5G microwave radiation antennae.

A few years ago, when it was still legal to place cell towers on top of fire stations, local residents opposed the placement of an AT&T cell tower in proximity to a fire station in Tam Valley. The cell tower was stopped due to the denial (or delay) of a use permit.

The City of Petaluma is currently in the process of amending its Municipal Code Section 14.44 entitled “Telecommunications Facility and Antenna Criteria” to include new regulations for Small Cell Facilities. A new Mill Valley ordinance could potentially protect the health and safety of Mill Valley residents.

Below is a link to the Petaluma City Council Agenda for August 6, 2018, when this subject was last discussed. It is Item 3 E - “Adoption (2nd Reading) of an Ordinance Amending the City of Petaluma Municipal Code and Implementing Zoning Ordinance Regulating Small Cell Facilities”:

CONCLUSION

Once again, we urge you to put this issue on your agenda and prevent the installation of “Close Proximity Microwave Radiation Antennae” (CPMRA) for 4G and 5G technology in the City of Mill Valley. We recommend initiating a moratorium of all CPMRA installations in the City. This will give you time to find solutions and implement a new, strong Mill Valley ordinance to regulate Small Cell Facilities and to protect the health and safety of your constituents.

Since preparations for the installation of CPMRAs for 4G and 5G technology are occurring in Unincorporated Mill Valley too, we have sent a similar letter to the Marin County Board of Supervisors. Perhaps you could work with the County on this matter.

Thank you in advance for your conscientious consideration.

Very truly yours,

/s/
